Most people misidentify the caduceus as a symbol of medicine. That belongs to the Rod of Asclepius — a single serpent, no wings. The caduceus — two serpents, winged staff — was carried by Hermes in Greek mythology and Mercury in Roman tradition. Its name in Greek was kerykeion: the herald's staff. Its power was negotiation. Commerce. The movement of information and resource between worlds. The messenger of the gods carried this, not the healer.

Two serpents coiling a single staff represent duality in permanent productive tension — not opposition, but dialogue. Two forces, each as strong as the other, choosing to move together rather than apart. The wings at the apex indicate elevation: that this authority does not remain at ground level. It travels.

This pendant is worn at the chest — at the level of the sternum, closest to the lungs, the voice, the organ of breath and articulation. It is a piece about speaking with precision. About being in the room where the decisions are made and saying something that changes what happens next.

Cast in platinum-enhanced sterling silver (925/50). The pendant is a full three-dimensional casting — both serpents have complete relief on the reverse, not a flat back plate. This is more expensive and labor-intensive than a standard casting and it is the correct way to make this piece.

The box chain is solid-link, not hollow. Available in 16, 18, or 20 inch lengths, each with a lobster clasp and one-inch extension. The pendant measures 38mm height by 22mm width.

There is no plating. The platinum enhancement is worked into the alloy itself, not applied as a surface finish.

Sizing and Presence
The pendant measures 38mm height by 22mm width. On an 18" chain it rests at the sternum — the working position for most necklines. 16" sits high at the collarbone and suits open-collar looks with space above the sternum. 20" for lower cuts where you want the pendant deeper in the chest.

The caduceus will appear warm against charcoal, cool against cream. Both are intentional.

In Fabric
Tailored wool, silk charmeuse, fine cashmere, and structured cotton. Fabrics that hold a shape. The pendant requires a neckline that gives it space to sit — not a high neck, not an oversized cowl. An open collar or a V that ends at the sternum.

How to Wear It
A silk blouse in cream or bone, open at the collar to the sternum where the 18" chain positions the pendant. Wide-leg tailored trousers in charcoal or midnight navy. The pendant fills the negative space of the open collar — it requires no other jewelry and no layering.

A structured blazer worn open over a simple fitted top in a dark tone. The lapels frame the pendant without closing off the chest. A cashmere turtleneck in charcoal for a colder register — the chain disappears at the neck and the caduceus emerges below the collar, which is its most powerful position.

No other necklaces. One ring at most, on the right hand. A clean pointed boot or flat-toe loafer keeps the line grounded.
