Care & Authenticity
Crown of Sadie does not produce in volume. Every piece is made to order — one at a time, by hand, in New York City. There is no factory line. There is no stock room. When your piece is complete, it carries a unique internal tracking code that ties it permanently to its materials, its maker, and its owner.
Each piece arrives with a Narrative Slip — a document containing the story and intention behind the design. For OATH & HEIR commissions, the archive packet preserves the full journey: moodboard, interpretation tiles, narrative stack, technical specification, and final imagery. This is not paperwork. It is provenance.
We do not use plating to simulate precious metals. We do not use synthetic stones without disclosing it. Every material listed on a product page is exactly what arrives on your hand, your wrist, or your chest. If a piece is described as 24K yellow gold, it is 24K yellow gold — not gold-plated, not gold-filled, not vermeil over base metal. The material is the promise.
MATERIALS WE USE
Platinum: Select pieces are crafted in 850 platinum — a dense, heavy, naturally white metal that does not tarnish or fade. Platinum develops a characteristic soft sheen over years of wear rather than losing its finish. It is the most enduring precious metal we use and is chosen for pieces that demand permanence in both meaning and material.
Gemstones: We use natural and lab-grown stones depending on the piece. Natural stones include labradorite, white sapphire, moonstone, diamond, emerald, blue topaz, opal, citrine, garnet, and pink sapphire. Where a lab-grown stone provides the same visual and symbolic quality — as with the alexandrite in Éclisse — we use it transparently. Every product page specifies exactly which stones are used and whether they are natural or lab-grown.
Enamel & Resin: Several pieces feature cold enamel application or high-grade resin inlay. Cold enamel is hand-applied in layers and cured at room temperature, preserving fine detail and color depth. Resin inlay — used across the Ascension collection — features an opaque satin finish with a slightly deeper base tone beneath the surface, creating a dimensional warmth that flat enamel cannot achieve. Both materials are durable under normal wear but require specific care to maintain their finish.
frequently asked questions
Necklaces & Pendants
Store flat or hanging — never balled or tangled. Clasp the chain before storing to prevent knotting. Wipe the pendant and chain with a soft lint-free cloth after each wear to remove oils from the skin. For pieces with enamel or stone settings, avoid pulling or pressing on decorative elements when putting the piece on or taking it off. Always handle by the chain, not the pendant.
Earrings
Clean posts and backings regularly with a soft cloth dampened with warm water and mild soap. Dry thoroughly before storing. Store earrings in individual compartments or pouches to prevent contact scratching between pieces. For stud earrings like Halo des Fleurs, avoid pressing the front face against hard surfaces when placing the piece down.
Rings
Remove before washing hands with soap, applying lotion, cleaning, exercising, or swimming. Gold is a soft metal — especially at higher karats — and daily contact with hard surfaces will create fine scratches over time. This is normal wear and contributes to the piece's character, but removing the ring during physical tasks will slow the process. For pieces with resin inlay like Cendavera, avoid prolonged contact with hand sanitizer or alcohol-based products.
Bracelets & Cuffs
For hinged cuffs like Ferréa, open and close the hinge gently — do not force it. Place the bracelet on a flat surface to open it, slide your wrist in, then close. Do not bend or flex the cuff to fit over your hand. Store the bracelet closed, flat, in its original packaging. The resin inlay on Ferréa should be wiped clean with a dry soft cloth only — no liquid cleaners.
Pieces with Enamel or Resin
Enamel and resin are durable but not indestructible. Avoid dropping these pieces on hard surfaces — a sharp impact can chip enamel or crack resin. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can fade certain resin colors over time. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or chemical jewelry cleaning solutions on any piece with enamel or resin. A soft dry cloth is all these surfaces need.
Perfume & Fragrance
Apply perfume, hairspray, and body lotion before putting your jewelry on — never after. Chemical compounds in fragrances can dull gold finishes and damage enamel surfaces over time.
Chlorine & Pools
Remove all jewelry before swimming in pools, hot tubs, or the ocean. Chlorine is corrosive to gold alloys and can permanently damage stone settings. Salt water accelerates tarnishing on silver and platinum-enhanced pieces.
Harsh Chemicals
Household cleaning products, bleach, acetone, and industrial solvents will damage every material we use. Remove your jewelry before cleaning.
Abrasive Surfaces
Gold scratches. This is a fact of the material, not a flaw. But unnecessary contact with concrete, stone countertops, metal zippers, and rough fabrics will accelerate surface wear. Be mindful of where your hands and wrists rest.
Prolonged Direct Sunlight
Extended sun exposure can fade resin colors and affect certain stone treatments over time. This is primarily a concern for storage — do not store pieces on windowsills or in direct light.
Ultrasonic & Steam Cleaners
These are not safe for any piece containing enamel, resin, or delicate stone settings. The vibration and heat can loosen settings, crack enamel, and damage resin bonds. A soft cloth and warm water are all you need.
The simplest care is the best care. After wearing, wipe your piece gently with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove oils and moisture from the skin. This alone will keep most pieces looking as they should.
For a deeper clean, dampen a soft cloth with warm water and a single drop of mild dish soap. Wipe the metal surfaces gently, then dry immediately with a clean dry cloth. Do not soak any piece — especially those with enamel, resin, or stone settings — as moisture trapped beneath settings can cause long-term damage.
For gold pieces without enamel or resin, a professional-grade gold polishing cloth can restore surface luster. These are available at most jewelers and online. Rub gently in one direction, not in circles.
If your piece has visible buildup in crevices or around stone settings, use a soft-bristle brush — a clean, dry, soft toothbrush works — and gently work around the detail. Do not use water with the brush on enamel or resin surfaces.
If you are ever unsure about how to clean a specific piece, contact us. We would rather answer the question than have you risk damaging something irreplaceable.
Every Crown of Sadie piece arrives in signature packaging designed to protect it between wears. Use it. The box is not ceremonial — it is functional.
Store each piece separately. Gold is soft, and pieces stored together will scratch each other. Keep pieces in individual compartments, soft pouches, or their original boxes.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. Bathroom counters and windowsills are the two worst places for fine jewelry — moisture and UV exposure accelerate every form of material degradation.
For extended storage, wrap pieces individually in a soft anti-tarnish cloth before placing them in their box. This is especially important for silver and platinum-enhanced pieces.
If you travel with your jewelry, use a dedicated jewelry travel case with individual padded slots. Do not pack pieces loose in a bag, pouch, or pocket where they can contact each other or hard objects.
Every Crown of Sadie piece is backed by a lifetime structural warranty.
This means that if your piece experiences a structural failure resulting from craftsmanship — a setting that loosens under normal wear, a clasp that fails, a hinge that separates, a join that opens — we will repair it at no cost to you, for the lifetime of the piece. There is no expiration. There is no fine print.
This warranty does not cover cosmetic wear consistent with normal use. Surface scratching on gold, gradual patina development on platinum, and minor softening of resin or enamel surfaces over decades of wear are natural characteristics of fine materials. They are not defects — they are evidence that the piece is being lived in, which is exactly what it was made for.
This warranty does not cover damage resulting from misuse, negligence, unauthorized repair or modification, or exposure to conditions outlined in the care instructions above.
To initiate a warranty claim, contact us through our website with photographs of the issue. We will evaluate and respond within 48 hours.
